Information session in Mayo today on grants available for revitalising vacant and derelict homes

An information session on the various grants available for revitalising vacant homes is taking place in Ballina this afternoon.

The session will take place between 4.30 and 7 p.m. in Ballina Civic Offices, offering 'a great opportunity' to learn about schemes such as Croí Cónaithe, said Tom Gilligan, director of services with Mayo County Council.

Mr. Gilligan, speaking at the January monthly meeting of Ballina Municipal District, added that there is renewed interest in the grant schemes since the new series of Room To Improve with architect Dermot Bannon started on RTÉ.

Under Croí Cónaithe, a grant of up to €50,000 to renovate a vacant property (up to €70,000 if the property is derelict) is available.

The Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant is funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage through the Croí Cónaithe (Towns) Fund, with applications made to the local authority.
