Mayo county town mourns passing of gentleman Tommy Haugh
The death has occurred of Tommy Haugh, Moneen, Castlebar.
In his 96th year, he died peacefully yesterday in the loving care of the staff of Blackrocks Nursing Home, Foxford.
A much-loved and respected personality, news of his passing is deeply regretted in the community.
A retired member of the transport staff of Roadstone, Castlebar, the deceased was a dedicated family man and he had a lifelong love of walking and the outdoors.
Tommy had active association with the Castlebar International Four Days Walks for many years and loved to see walkers from throughout the world coming to his home town and enjoying the local landscape on an annual basis.
He is survived by his sons Colin and Seán, daughter Lynette (UK), sisters Nora O’Brien (Islandeady) and Kathleen McTigue (UK), daughters-in-law Maura and Michelle, nephew Padraic Geraghty (Castlebar), grandchildren David, Sammy, Lucy, Jenny, Hannah, Caoimhe, Cillian and Sorcha, great- grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.
Tommy was predeceased by his parents Bridget and Paddy, brother Patsy (UK), sisters Mary Geraghty (Castlebar) and Nellie Quirke (Cork) and son-in-law Jim.
Tommy will repose at Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Friday from 5.30 to 7 p.m. with removal on Saturday morning at 10.30 a.m for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.
He will be laid to rest afterwards in the Old Cemetery, Castlebar.
