Mayo deputy questions RTÉ board members position
A report from Grant Thornton into The Toy Show musical was discussed by a Fine Gael TD in the Dáil.
The musical was released in the Convention Centre in Dublin in 2022, and amassed losses of over €2.2million.
Deputy Dillon stated he is calling on the Minister for Communications to “consider the position of the remaining RTÉ board members.”
The awaited report finds that board approval was required for “Toy Show The Musical” and it also finds that the formal approval of the board was neither sought nor provided for.
The report also illustrates that the board was not kept appropriately informed about the project as it was being developed. External expert advice was ignored.
RTÉ chairperson Síun Ní Raghallaigh apologised for a "significant lapse in oversight" of Toy Show The Musical and committed to changes in governance so that it would not happen again.
The Chairperson of Fine Gael Parliamentary party, Alan Dillon was on the public accounts committee and was heralded for grilling RTÉ board members in the Oireachtas. He has called on Green Party Minister for Communications, Catherine Martin to consider the position of the board in light of the Grant Thornton report.
