The condition of the Dome in the aftermath of the storm.

Mayo tennis club launch fundraiser to replace dome destroyed during Storm Isha

CASTLEBAR Castlebar Tennis Club has launched a fundraising drive to replace its dome, which was demolished when Storm Isha hit at the weekend.

The state of the art air dome covered four of the six courts at the facility.

The club has launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with the replacement of the dome so that its courts can be under cover again in the shortest timeframe possible.

The campaign page explains how the dome is a hub for indoor tennis and community activities. It is more than just a sports facility and it has been a vital part of the Castlebar community, touching lives in countless ways.

For years, this bustling centre has welcomed schools, special needs groups, and hosted blind tennis sessions, reflecting the club's commitment to inclusivity. Coaching programmes, spanning local, national and international levels, have nurtured talent and passion for tennis.

The dome has also been a place of employment for many, directly impacting their livelihoods, and not forgetting the vibrant tennis community that exists with its members.

Moreover, the club has proudly been a welcoming space for refugees arriving in Castlebar, providing them with a sense of community and normalcy during challenging times.

The facility has also been instrumental in developing exceptional tennis players, many of whom have earned scholarships worldwide and gone on to compete at very high levels.

The campaign page continued: 'Sadly, our current insurance does not cover the storm damage, leaving us in a challenging situation. We urgently need to rebuild the dome to continue serving our community and members. This is where we need your help.

'We are launching a fundraising campaign to gather the resources needed to rebuild the Castlebar Tennis Club dome. Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant difference. It will not only help in reconstructing a vital sports facility but also in restoring a community cornerstone that brings people together, fosters talent, and supports those in need.'
