On stage at Mayo's Linenhall this February
IT'S officially theatre season at the Linenhall this spring as Fishamble Theatre Company and Pat Kinevane make a welcome return with KING, written and performed by Cork native Kinevane, on Wednesday, February 21.
Kinevane’s previously sold-out shows at the Linenhall include Silent, Before and Underneath. Having worked in theatre, television and radio for three decades, winning multiple awards for his contributions to acting and writing, he is back with long-term collaborators, Fishamble, under the direction of Jim Culleton, with music by Denis Clohessy, to present this very special fifth solo play.
KING tells the story of Luther, a man from Cork named in honour of his Granny’s hero, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Only leaving his apartment for essential journeys, and to perform as an Elvis impersonator, the play explores prejudice, privilege and resilience as Luther struggles to live life to the full.
NETTLE HORSE
To another theatrical treat - Little John Nee’s transformative theatrical odyssey, Nettle Horse, on Wednesday, February 7.
Set in the near future, the audience is invited to step into a parallel universe and witness the magic of their own imaginations, through storytelling, song and satire.
An award-winning writer, performer and musician, Little John Nee has developed a unique style of musical theatre, simultaneously hilarious and heart-breaking, gaining him international recognition.
COMEDY AND MUSIC
In comedy news, Tom Davis embarks on his biggest tour yet with brand new show, Underdog, which he brings to the arts centre stage on Saturday, February 17.
Tom will explore life as the longshot - from leaving school with no qualifications to years working on building sites, all the way through to the difficult road to fatherhood and acting in blockbuster films.
Best known for hit shows King Gary, The Curse, Murder In Successville, Live At The Apollo and hugely popular podcast Wolf and Owl with Romesh Ranganathan, Big Tom Davis’ stand up renaissance is greatly anticipated.
Also upcoming is Charlie Connelly’s hilarious and informative one-man show, Attention All Shipping, on Thursday, February 1, plus musical performances by Andy Irvine on Friday, February 2, and Westport native Brian Duffy and the Mayo Concert Orchestra on Friday, February 16.
