Mayo vet elected president of Veterinary Council of Ireland

BALLINA veterinary practitioner Rachel Brown has been appointed president of the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI).

She was appointed president following an uncontested election by council members at the most recent VCI meeting and assumes the office with immediate effect.

Rachel is a veterinary practitioner in Moy Veterinary Clinic, a mixed practice serving companion animal and farm animals based in Ballina. She has served as deputy president of the VCI for the last two years.

Speaking about her appointment, she said: “It is an immense privilege to have been elected as president of the Veterinary Council of Ireland. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on the council, along with the registrar and executive team, in the interest of the public and of animal health and welfare.”

Niamh Muldoon, CEO and registrar of the VCI, said: “I warmly congratulate our new president on her incoming term of office and I look forward to working with her to continue the work of the Veterinary Council on matters of animal health and welfare and public health. The council will benefit from Rachel’s expertise having gained experience as deputy president.

“I would also like to recognise and sincerely thank our outgoing president, Vivienne Duggan, for her high level of commitment and dedication in the performance of her role over the preceding two years.”
