Mayo library unveils age-friendly community accessibility

Belmullet Library proudly introduced Age-Friendly parking spaces on St. Brigid's Day to mark a move toward community accessibility.

This initiative aims to help address the mobility challenges faced by older community members and ensures universal accessibility to library resources.

The move captured the public's imagination occasion, showcasing the newly designated parking spaces that complement the library's commitment to fostering an inclusive environment.

The project, which gained Age-Friendly status last year, also features improved lighting, reading glasses provisions, and accessible shelving.

Local area engineers Martin O’Grady and Barry Ryan from Mayo County Council played a crucial role in bringing the initiative to fruition. The library, now a beacon of community connection, continues to evolve as a space that caters to the diverse needs of its community.

These afternoon not only marked the successful implementation of Age-Friendly parking but also celebrate the ongoing efforts of Belmullet Library in creating an environment where everyone, regardless of age or mobility, can comfortably engage in learning and social activities.
