A Mayo View: White House ‘Shamrock’ suggestion is rubbish

by Auld Stock

DEPUTY Brid Smith believes the Irish government should abolish the ceremony of presenting a bowl of shamrock to the president of America in the White House on St. Patrick’s Day.

This, she believes, is because President Biden is failing to use his influence to prevent the killing of innocent people in Gaza.

I personally believe the Americans should take a stronger stance against President Yetanyahu and the Israeli government.

At the same time it is my belief the banning of the shamrock ceremony is a complete waste of time.

This may sound materialistic but the American government has established several industries in this country which employ many thousands of workers.

American companies in Mayo provide thousands of jobs.

Common sense dictates we should welcome those jobs to our county.

My hope is that more American companies will provide additional jobs in our county and keep our young people at home.

Deputy Smith may be sincere in her views.

However, I personally welcome American industries to our county.

I believe this makes a great deal of sense.

Deputy Smith’s suggestion is rubbish.
