Closure of business major blow to town - east Mayo election candidate

THE decision by long-established hardware company MP Moran Builders Merchants to cease operating in Swinford has been described as a major blow to the town by Fine Gael local election candidate Antoinette Peyton.

In a statement, the Swinford native said: “The announcement has shocked the community.

“The news is a major blow to 12 loyal and dedicated employees.

“Another issue that arises is that MP Moran carried a huge range of supplies covering all aspects of the construction industry. People came from far and wide to avail of their supplies. It was therefore a magnet for increasing the footfall in the town which was also of benefit to the other retail outlets.”

Ms. Peyton continued: “I understand the importance of supporting local businesses as they are the backbone of our community.

“As a councillor, if elected, I will work with local business owners to ensure Swinford is a prosperous town and attractive town to do business.”

Ms. Peyton called on the Minister for State for Business, Enterprise and Retail, Neale Richmond, to engage with local enterprises and address issues of concern with trading conditions impacting the commercial performance of local businesses.
