Safety issue at end of Mayo dual carriageway

A SAFETY issue at the Westport end of the new N5 dual carriageway has been highlighted by a local councillor.

People continuing on to Newport, instead of turning left at the Corrib Oil junction in Westport, are treating that section of the road as if it was a dual carriageway, when it isn't.

At a municipal meeting, Councillor Brendan Mulroy said motorists are driving on both sides of the road.

There probably is signage to say end of dual carriageway, he said, but he has had a number of people come to him about the issue.

The matter, he was told, will be brought to the attention of the Regional Design Office.
