Mayo community efforts to be broadcast on RTÉ tonight

A story first broken by the Connaught Telegraph will be covered by RTÉ’s Prime Time show this evening.

The resolution to the Lahardane GP crisis sees Dr. Amjad Ahmed take up residency in the newly formed Nephin Medical Centre this week.

Public meetings organised by Gerry Loftus and the local community members who kept the medical practice open during the winter months brought a positive resolution after a local businessman sourced a GP for the HSE to interview and retain a doctor in the rural village.

The Irish Independent covered the story in this morning’s paper as a good news story, election candidate Gerry Loftus appeared on Lunchtime Live with Andrea Gilligan on Newstalk, and the newly appointed doctor is expected to appear on tonight’s program at 10 p.m. on RTÉ.
