Mundy live at the Linenhall this weekend

A spectacular range of live music performances, with styles and genres to suit all tastes, will be hosted by the Linenhall Arts Centre venue over the coming weeks.

Famed Irish singer/songwriter Mundy performs on Saturday, February 10, supported by Sean Murphy and Kyle Hampson.

With greatest hits including ‘Gin & Tonic Sky’, ‘Life’s a Cinch’ and ‘To You I Bestow’ (which featured on Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet movie soundtrack), Mundy has travelled the world supporting some of the greats: Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Emmylou Harris, and the Pogues among others. Impressively, he has secured gold and multi-platinum record sales in Ireland, plus Meteor award gongs for ‘Best Male’ and ‘Most Downloaded Song’ (two years running) with Steve Earle’s ‘Galway Girl’.

BRIAN DUFFY

Brian Duffy, in collaboration with the Mayo Concert Orchestra and conductor and musical director Kathy Fahey, are set to enchant on Friday, February 16.

Recently sold out in his native Westport, this show combines the traditional with the thoughtful, and the emotional with the challenging.

Having lived and travelled abroad for a time singing, playing guitar, and writing and performing music, Brian spent eight years in north western Spain, which infused his traditional Irish and folk roots with an array of Celtic music, alongside Latin themes.

On collaborating with Kathy Fahey and the Mayo Concert Orchestra for this performance he enthused: “To experience my music being orchestrated is an absolute dream and joy, because it brings so many additional layers and dimensions to this work, offering it a richness and depth which I feel is exquisitely unique and special.”

MIKE NIELSEN

Also upcoming at the Linenhall is guitar aficionado Mike Nielsen on Thursday, March 7.

Guitarist, composer, educator and author, Mike is renowned for his innovative performances and research. His solo music, which includes original compositions, is performed on a classical guitar and influenced by jazz, classical, flamenco, Latin, African, Rock and Indian music.

Nielsen has shared the stage with many international stars including Dave Liebman, Larry Coryell, Joe Lovano, Kenny Werner, Kenny Wheeler, Dominique Di Piazza and Paul Wertico.

Additional highlights this February include an evening of comedy on Saturday, February 17, with Tom Davis - Underdog, and Fishamble Theatre Company present KING by Pat Kinevane on Wednesday, February 21. Closing out the month are Tom Portman and Friends, taking to the Linenhall stage on Saturday, February 24.
