Mayo artist Aisling makes quite a splash with her inaugural exhibition

Castlebar born Aisling Neary welcomed visitors from far and wide to her inaugural art exhibition, Spring Splash, at the weekend.

The three-day event was held in the historic and intimate surrounds of All Saints Heritage Centre, Clonbur, close to Cong where Aisling lives with her husband, Kevin.

The artist’s connection with the Connemara seascapes and particularly Inishbofin Island is evidenced by the large number of scenic landscapes painted by her.

She explains: “Nature, especially the ocean, is my sanctuary for creativity. Observing its colours and beauty I feel deeply inspired."

After joining a local art group in Co. Clare during the pandemic, Aisling, a qualified nurse and Steiner kindergarten teacher, discovered her innate passion for art.

Her father, Michael, a skilled ceramic artist, now retired, has been one of her biggest inspirations and influences.

She stated: “Growing up amongst Dad’s dedication to his work, I developed a deep appreciation for arts and crafts.

One of her major contemporary influences is the artist Tony O’Connor.

Aisling said: “His equine art is inspirational and majestic."

After her successful weekend exhibition Aisling is determined to continue to explore what she describes as “the joy of painting” with a particular focus on the beauty of our Atlantic coastline.
