The sale of the former Eircom building at Castlebar Retail Business Park, Breaffy Road, Castlebar, to Corduff Travel Group is completed, local property firm DNG Cyril Burke has confirmed.

The Eircom building, once the home to over 200 Eircom employees, has been lying vacant for years and will now get a new lease of life over the coming months with a major upgrade and along with the creation of up to 100 new jobs.

Mr. Burke wished Michael Corduff well with his plans to further expand the company as one of Ireland's largest coach/bus operators.

“The site is ideal for their requirements and it is another win for Castlebar to be in a position to host the Corduff Travel headquarters,” he added.

Corduff Travel is a third-generation business which started with one minibus as a local transportation provider in Rossport in north Mayo.

The business has grown to one of the largest fleet of coaches and minibuses in Ireland.

Corduff Travel is seen in all areas of the community from school transportation, Local Link runs, such as HSE services, rural transportation high frequency routes, to a range of private services, offering a range of vehicles from four to 69 seats.

The company has run by managing director Michael Corduff Junior since 2013 and his vision for the family business is inspirational and extensive.

While the company is still a very family oriented business, it has grown from humble beginnings to a fleet of over 140 mini buses and coaches with over 150 people employed directly by the Corduff Travel Group.

Now the acquisition of the old Eircom property is set to prove a launching pad for greater expansion and investment.

The company's existing office and garage facility at in Castlebar has space for 10 office personnel and one pit for heavy goods vehicles.

But it does not meet the requirements of the ambitions company.

Consequently, Corduff Travel saw the opportunity to acquire the new property and it offers massive potential.

Corduff Travel has plans for extensive development of refurbishment of the old Eircom building and site at the Breaffy Road.

This development will create in excess of 100 jobs for the local community.

New job opportunities will range from mechanics, technicians, sales representatives, administration staff and roles will be from apprentices right up to qualified personnel.

The existing Eircom building will be developed into office space for the expanding work force.

The company also has plans to construct a large-scale heavy goods vehicle garage which will operate 20 hours a day.

This will be a one stop garage for all hauliers and bus/coach operators.

This expansion will see an increase of 100% in the company’s workforce in the next 18 to 24 months.
