Mayo village gets to bottom of its illegal dumping problem

A litter warden employed by Mayo County Council has got to the bottom of an illegal dumping issue in the village of Breaffy, near Castlebar.

Bags of rubbish were being left on a regular basis on the roadside, much to the annoyance of local people committed to keeping the community tidy.

The council conducted an investigation after complaints about the matter had been lodged with the authority.

And now the culprit has been identified by the warden and action will follow.

Local Councillor Martin McLoughlin welcomed the news that the saga has been brought to an end.

He stated: "It's unacceptable that any member of the public sees fit to dump their waste along a public road.

"I am glad our litter warden has been successful in identifying the person responsible and the matter will now take its course.

"I pay tribute to the community of Breaffy for its determination in addressing this matter and I praise them for the wonderful work they are doing to keep their village spic and span," he added.
