Church Gate collection for South Mayo Branch of MS
The annual church gate collection of the South Mayo Branch of MS Ireland will take place at churches across south Mayo next weekend, February 24 and 25.
Where does that money get spent?
A spokesperson outlined: "We provide assistance in many ways.
"We fund physiotherapy and yoga classes, as well as other therapies and alternative treatments.
"We contribute to the costs of home help, care and nursing, particularly where people may fall through the cracks in state provision. We also help with fuel costs.
"In addition, we assist in the purchase of necessary therapeutic equipment for individuals who need it, and we also help with the costs of making adaptations to the homes of people whose MS condition requires this.
"We also help with the cost of people staying the Respite Centre in Bushy Park, in Dublin – a dedicated centre run by MS Ireland for people with multiple sclerosis."
Liam Cannon, chair of the local branch, said: “We know that Mayo people, and Irish people in general, are very generous, and we are asking for your support this weekend.
"All monies collected are used to benefit people with MS living locally.”
