Proud community distinction for Mayo man in Kerry

Seán Lyons, originally from Spencer Street Castlebar, has been honoured for his outstanding community work in Kerry.

He received the award in the County Council Municipal District Awards for Achievement and Community Service.

The award was presented by Mayor of Tralee Terry O Brien.

Mayor O’Brien said Seán was a great help to him when he became a councillor many years ago.

He said Seán has always championed the underdog.

Through his involvement with the Tralee International Resource Centre he played a critical role in supporting integration and providing services for asylum seekers in the town.

He has served on numerous boards and committees and been a tireless fundraiser for charity.

His witty commentary has been a feature of the St Patrick's Day Parade for many years.

Seán has represented the county with distinction at events in California, New York and elsewhere.
