East Mayo town praised on selection for 'Town Centre First' initiative
Ballyhaunis is one of the 26 towns in Ireland selected for Town Centre First plans.
The plans, which were developed in consultation with local communities, represent the vision of local people for their area and contain proposals for a diverse range of projects such as redeveloping derelict sites, creating community parks and walkways, boosting SME and tourism potential, and protecting historical landmarks.
Welcoming the news, Minister of State Dara Calleary TD said: "I am pleased Ballyhaunis has been selected to develop a Town Centre First Plan under a scheme supported by the Department of Rual and Community Development.
"Ballyhaunis becomes the second Mayo town selected, joining Killala, where a plan is presently being developed in consultation with local stakeholders.
"A sum of €30,000 is being made available to assist in developing the Town Centre First plan for Ballyhaunis.
"This approach empowers communities and businesses, working with Mayo County Council, to guide and direct investment in the town.
"I wish all involved every success and offer assurance of my ongoing support and availing to assist in any way."
