Mayo Young Sports Stars: An athlete with a big future ahead

Among the many highlights for Moy Valley AC's Clodagh Gill in 2023 was her success in the 123.ie Connacht Schools Championships, as she won the intermediate girls 3,000m title in 11.05.75 while running for St. Mary’s Secondary School, Ballina.

There were many other highlights for an athlete who has worn the Irish singlet and who appears to be a constant upward trajectory.

Last summer, Clodagh and her club-mate Seamus Clarke represented Ireland at the European Youth Olympics Festival in Slovenia, while Clodagh finished ninth overall as the Moy Valley Under 18 girls team claimed third in the National Cross Country Championships later in the year.

Clodagh was also awarded the Martin Sheridan Bursary, which is presented to young athletes who have excelled at a high level in athletics.

The award, named after the Bohola man who was one of Ireland's finest ever Olympians, helps athletes to continue to train and reach their potential – and potential is something that Clodagh would appear to have plenty of.

Clodagh will be recognised for her achievements at a gala awards ceremony in Breaffy House Resort on March 8. Tickets for the event are available now. Contact Aiden Henry on (087) 6582141 or aiden.henry@con-telegraph.ie for more details.
