Language and action plans launched in Mayo Gaeltacht communities

SHEOL Patrick O’Donovan, Aire Stáit na Gaeltachta, Plean Teanga do Limistéar Pleanála Teanga Mhaigh Eo Thiar go hoifigiúil, agus é ar cuairt i nGaeltacht Mhaigh Eo.

Mar aon leis seo, thug an tAire Stáit cuairt ar Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Thuar Mhic Eadaigh, áit ar ceadaíodh €218,000 anuraidh do CLG Thuar Mhic Éadaigh le cur ar a gcumas páirc astro nua a thógáil in aice le Páirc Naomh Muire, agus sheol sé Plean Gnímh Thuar Mhic Éadaigh chomh maith.

Dúirt an tAire O’Donovan: “Ba mhaith liom tréaslú le Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Acla (CFÁA) - Ceanneagraíocht an Limistéar Pleanála Teanga agus le gach duine a bhí bainteach leis an bplean teanga a chur le chéile do cheantar Mhaigh Eo Thiar. Ach an oiread leis na pleananna ar fad atá á bhfeidhmiú cheana féin, tabharfar deiseanna faoi phlean teanga Mhaigh Eo Thiar do phobal an cheantair seo a bheith lárnach san iarracht bhreise is gá a dhéanamh chun go rachaidh an Ghaeilge ar aghaidh go slán, sábháilte chuig na glúine atá le teacht.

Freisin, ba mhian liom comhghairdeas a dhéanamh le pobal Thuar Mhic Éadaigh, idir Choiste Stiúrtha Thuar Mhic Éadaigh, Coiste Cultúr Teanga agus Forbartha Thuar Mhic Éadaigh agus an Cumann Lúthchleas Gael áitiúil, as an dea-nuacht seo don cheantar. Rud an-speisialta faoin bPlean Gnímh seo go raibh inchur láidir ó réimse leathan páirtithe leasmhara pobail i gcur le chéile an phlean, idir óg agus aosta; agus is cinnte go mbeidh áis iontach le tabhairt anois don phobal sa pháirc astro nua seo.”

Launching the language plan in Achill.

THE Minister of State for the Gaeltacht, Patrick O’Donovan, has officially launched the Maigh Eo Thiar language plan during a visit to the Mayo Gaeltacht.

Alongside this, the minister visited Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Tuar Mhic Éadaigh, where a grant of €218,000 was provided last year to facilitate construction of a new astro pitch adjacent to Páirc Naomh Muire, and he also officially launched the Tuar Mhic Éadaigh Action Plan.

Said Minister O’Donovan: “I would like to commend Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Acla (CFÁA) - the Language Planning Area Coordinating Group - and everyone involved in drawing-up the language plan for the Maigh Eo Thiar area.

“As with all other plans currently being implented, opportunities will be provided for the Maigh Eo Thiar language plan to be central in the additional efforts required to ensure that the Irish language continues to thrive for future generations.”

On launching the Tourmakeady action plan, he said: “I would like to congratulate the community of Tuar Mhic Éadaigh, including the Tuar Mhic Éadaigh steering committee, the Tuar Mhic Éadaigh Culture and Language Committee and local GAA club Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Thuar Mhic Éadaigh, on this positive news for the area. What is particularly special about this action plan is the strong collaboration from a wide range of community stakeholders, both young and old; and there is no doubt that the newly announced astro pitch will be a fantastic asset for the community.”
