Mayo Young Sports Stars: Rowing in behind a sporting cause

Since its inception in 2013, Tullaghan Bay Rowing Club, Geesala, has gone from strength to strength.

A small club doing extraordinary things, the results speak for themselves.

In January 2023, Tullaghan Bay teams won Under 18 mixed (Darragh Gallagher, D.J. Doocey, Ciara Cosgrove, Amy Shevlin), Under 15 girls (Alex Calpin, Aleesha Calpin, Katie Turner, Saoirse Donoghue) and Under 15 boys (Sean Gallagher, Luke Carty, Tieernan Gaughan, Ciaran Cosgrove) All-Ireland titles, while Michael Cormack won an Under 23 silver medal at national level.

One of the smaller sports locally in terms of numbers participating, rowing is nevertheless growing in popularity and Tullaghan Bay shows what can be achieved from humble beginnings.

The club's national winners will be acknowledged at our Mayo Young Sports Stars Awards gala ceremony in Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar, on Friday, March 8. Tickets are on sale now - for details, contact Aiden Henry on (087) 6582141 or aiden.henry@con-telegraph.ie.
