Safety works on street in west Mayo town to start in coming weeks

OFFICIAL confirmation has been received that works on a safety scheme at George's Street in Newport will commence in the coming weeks.

The much welcome news for the town was confirmed by Councillor Brendan Mulroy, and he's hoping to see works on the ground after Easter.

Councillor Mulroy thanked the George's Street action group for their determination and spirit throughout the process and also his council colleagues for their support of the project over the last number of years.

He explained: “With the scheme now approved there is a two-week standstill period before we can formally award the contract to the successful contractor, which effectively brings us to the week before Easter.

“We will be looking for the contractor to commence as soon as possible after Easter.”
