Skate park in Mayo county town moves to planning stage

A skate park at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar has progressed to planning stage.

A Part 8 planning notice for the project has been published by Mayo County Council.

It will be a welcome boost to the sports and leisure facilities in the Lough Lannagh area.

Councillor Ger Deere, who has been a driving force behind the skate park, said it is great to see the project progressing after a long campaign.

He commented: “I placed a motion four years ago to identify a suitable site for a skate park, and then to seek funding.

“I was delighted that we received funding under the Community Recognition Fund last year.

“If approved under Part 8 and when completed, it will be another wonderful amenity at Lough Lannagh.

“Well done to all who have campaigned over the years.”
