Mayo Minister pays tribute to Admiral Brown in Argentina

During the Government's St. Patrick's Day missions in Latin America, Mayo Minister Dara Calleary paid homage to Admiral William Brown, a native of Foxford.

Minister Dara Calleary laid a wreath at Admiral Brown's grave in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he is celebrated as a national hero.

He also distributed specially commissioned pins featuring the Irish and Argentinean flags with an image of Admiral Brown, courtesy of the Admiral Brown Society in Foxford.

Municipal leaders from the region joined Minister Calleary during the tribute. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Calleary emphasised the importance of the links between Mayo, Ireland and Argentina, especially with the approaching 250th anniversary of Admiral Brown's birth in 2027.
