Mayo Fine Gael team launch council election campaign

THE Fine Gael team of candidates for the local elections in June launched their election campaign at the Micheal Davitt Museum on Monday afternoon.

Speaking at the launch, group whip Councillor Peter Flynn said the party was also launching its election manifesto - the key issues that Fine Gael will address if elected to a position of control of Mayo County Council.

Stated Councillor Flynn: “After 10 years of Independents and Fianna Fáil controlling Mayo County Council, we want to offer the people of Mayo something different.

“We have identified the important things that need to be addressed, including more action from Mayo County Council on affordable housing, more investment from the council in local roads and better use of the people's money by Mayo County Council.”

Deputy whip Councillor Jarlath Munnelly said that Fine Gael is running the strongest team of candidates across the county, with a good mixture of new and experienced candidates. The party is also running the biggest team of candidates in Mayo.

Said Councillor Munnelly: “Fine Gael has an impressive, diverse team of candidates, experienced and young, men and women, people living in rural areas and people living in our towns.

“We are running enough candidates to win outright control of Mayo County Council, and that is our goal. Then we will be able to implement the changes needed in Mayo.”
