Mayo authority advised to hire more staff to deal with pyrite crisis

"Mayo County Council is not doing near enough for pyrite-affected families. They must now take immediate action by hiring more staff to address their pressing needs."

That's according to Independent candidate, Harry Barrett.

Barrett continued: "The ongoing crisis of defective building blocks in County Mayo has reached critical levels, with hundreds of families and individuals facing the dire consequences of structural issues in their homes.

"I have learned that Mayo County Council has npt got the staffing to effectively manage the overwhelming influx of claims and support affected residents.

"We're dealing here with over 400 families already in the defective concrete block scheme.

"However, it is estimated that an additional 1,000 homeowners here are grappling with similar challenges in the county.

"Not only have they to deal with the trauma of moving home, they are now dealing with the frustration getting a very poor service from Mayo County Council because they haven't got the staff in place to deal with this massive crisis.

"I am led to believe that just one person has been employed to deal with families concerns and this is totally insufficient to give the families the service that they now need.

"This woefully insufficient staffing level is unable to adequately address the complex and extensive workload required to support their needs.

"I now urge Mayo County Council to take immediate action by bolstering its workforce to effectively address the pressing needs of pyrite families.

"By increasing staffing levels, the council can quicken the processing of claims, provide timely assistance to impacted families, and mitigate the profound hardships they are suffering.

"These families deserve swift and decisive action to alleviate the burdens imposed by the defective building blocks crisis. I now call them to prioritise their well-being. They have suffered enough," he added.
