Mayo mourns passing of 'inspirational' Jim Browne
The death has taken place James (Jim) Browne, Killadoon, Louisburgh.
He died suddenly on Saturday at Galway University Hospital.
Widely known for his charity work and leading pilgrimages to the Virgin Mary apparition site in Medjugorje, a place that helped change his own life, news of his passing is widely regretted by everybody who knew him.
Midwest Radio broadcast a documentary about his life some years ago entitled 'A Little Miracle at Medjugorje.'
He is deeply regretted by his sister Eileen Browne (Mullingar), nephew David Hand, his wife Lizzie and their son Thomas, niece Laoise Hand, her husband Neil Murphy and their daughter Sofia, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.
Jim was predeceased by his parents Molly and Bill Browne.
Many warm tributes are being paid to the deceased on social media.
One stated: "Jim was a beautiful person who touched our lives. His deep faith was an inspiration to us. He spoke the truth."
Another said: "I met him several times in Medjugorje and had the pleasure of his company in our home too.
"He'd always have a word of encouragement, as well as a bit of a laugh. He was a man of great wit and always a joy to chat with."
"He was a great friend and wonderful inspiration to us over the years," a further tribute said.
Jim will repose at Mir House, Killadoon, Louisburgh (F28XA39) on Wednesday, from 3 until 8 p.m.
Private removal on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. to St. Mary's Church, Westport, for Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
Burial takes place afterwards in Aughavale Cemetery, Westport.
