Speed ramps request for south Mayo station road
A CLAREMORRIS councillor has received representations requesting speed ramps on the station road in the town from O’Brien's Pub to the train station.
Councillor Richard Finn raised the matter at a municipal meeting after people brought it to his attention about speeds on the route.
The council, he was told, conducted a traffic survey, which indicated cars travel at an average speed of 36kph on the road. The highest speed recorded was 53kph, which was probably just one vehicle.
The road has a tight junction to enter, is narrow and operates on a one-way system.
Taking all this into account, speed ramps were not applicable in this case, he was informed.
