Funding boost for rural GAA club's astro project

AN additional €67,654 in funding has been allocated to Tourmakeady GAA Club for the development of their astro pitch.

This additional funding support brings the total grant for this project to €285,604, Deputy Michael Ring confirmed.

Said Deputy Ring: “Tourmakeady GAA have worked hard on this project to provide an astro pitch facility for their club. I am delighted that their hard work and determination has been rewarded and this project will shortly be a reality.”

Also welcoming the announcement, Minister of State Alan Dillon said funding of up to €580,159 has been granted to seven projects based in Gaeltacht areas in Galway, Kerry, Mayo Donegal and Cork.

They cover a range of costs, including building work and equipment, in addition to professional fees. The grants will also support the delivery of the aims of the Community and Language Support Programme for the benefit of the communities and for the Irish language in these areas.

Minister Dillon said he had worked with the committee in Tourmakeady to secure this additional funding.

He commented: “I am delighted that this astro turf pitch can now proceed and will certainly be a great addition to the facilities which are currently in place and will have a significant impact on the community. I now look forward to the completion of the pitch.”
