Three out of three for Mayo teams at SFAI national inter-league finals

THE Mayo Schoolboys/Girls and Youths AFL scooped three All-Ireland titles at the SFAI national inter-league finals in Kilkenny today.

In keenly contested finals, Mayo were victorious in the Under 15 Girls Cup, Under 13 Boys Bowl and Girls Under 12 Bowl deciders in a clean sweep for the county.

In a dramatic game in Evergreen, Kilkenny, this morning, the Under 15 girls came from behind to edge out Connaught neighbours Galway 3-2.

Doireann Lynch with a brace and Katie Hughes got the goals, with captain Amy Doherty lifting the trophy.

Manager Sinead Mulhern has now put back to back Inter-League Cup achievements together.

It took extra time to decide the Under 12 girls title, where Mayo came out the right side of a 3-2 scoreline against Kerry.

Violet O'Malley from Westport got Mayo's opening score, with Lexi Murphy getting the other two goals and also picking up the player of the match award.

This 3-2 scoreline was to be a feature of the day, as it turned out, as the Under 13 boys also returned a similar score against Waterford in winning their final.

Cillian Keating (2) and Callum Costello made it a super day for underage football in the county.
