Up to 100 new jobs being created at former Mayo Volex plant
Up to 100 new jobs are being created at the former Volex plant at Breaffy Road in Castlebar.
Behind the investment is PanelDuct, a Mayo company spearheading a new ground-breaking evolution in ventilation systems being manufactured on site.
The firm secured a lease from Mayo County Council to locate in a section of the former Volex building in the town in 2020 and now had more than 70 people employed in supplying a number of leading multi-nationals, including Microsoft and Intel, with their systems.
The workforce is expected to rise to over 100 by early next year.
PanelDuct, headed by Pat Walsh, has invested €3.4m. in the facility over the past four years and will have the option to buy out the premises at a reduced commercial rate by the end of next year.
Councillor Cyril Burke said PanelDuct and its success is a good news story for Castlebar and Mayo.
“They have already invested considerably on the plant over three phases following the initial setback of the worldwide Covid pandemic and I think they deserve immense credit for their ambition and dedication. It’s great to see new life in the factory,” he added.
“This is very much a good news story for the county,” he added.
Recruitment of staff is ongoing.
