Mayo trio clinch a top prize at Technovation Ireland

A DYNAMIC team of three innovative teenage girls from Mount Saint Michael in Claremorris has secured a prestigious accolade at the Technovation regional pitch event held at AMD in Dublin.

Their project, Evolve Era, is a groundbreaking app that promises to transform healthcare access by tackling the enduring challenge of lengthy general practitioner (GP) and hospital waiting lists.

Teenagers Ema Sasnauskaite, Simona Gaubyte and Huria Sadiq created their project at the Teen-Turn-led after-school sessions, which include learning how to code a mobile app and where they were supported by lead mentor Stephanie Hogan, receiving further guidance from industry and academic volunteers.

Reflecting on their achievement, Ema said: “Being recognised for our efforts in creating something that can make a real difference in people's lives is truly humbling. We wanted to address the frustration many people face with long waiting times for medical care, and Teen-Turn's support has been instrumental in helping us realise this vision.”

The trio showcased their app's potential to streamline healthcare services, presenting a solution poised to ease the burden of waiting times for patients nationwide. Evolve Era is a revolutionary app set to redefine the landscape of personal health management against the backdrop of persistently long waiting times for GP visits and hospital admissions.

“Through Teen-Turn, we received invaluable mentorship and guidance, which enabled us to refine our idea and bring it to fruition,” added Simona. “Their support empowered us to push boundaries and create something truly impactful.”

With its state-of-the-art AI capabilities, the app empowers users to take charge of their health like never before. From tracking personal healthcare issues such as mapping and monitoring moles to leveraging the AI machine learning model for assisting in the diagnosis of skin conditions like eczema or measles, the app offers users valuable insights and support while awaiting medical consultations.

“We wanted to harness the power of technology to empower individuals to actively engage in managing their own well-being,” explained Huria. “Our app not only enhances efficiency in healthcare delivery but also encourages a proactive approach to health management, ushering in a new era of personalised healthcare.”
