Construction to start later this year on Mayo beach activity centres

CONSTRUCTION of two state-of-the-art outdoor water-based activity centres in Louisburgh and Achill will start later this year.

The centres, at Carramore and Keel beaches, will have toilets, showers, changing facilities, an induction space to be used by water sports providers, external terrace and equipment washdown facilities.

Members of Mayo County Council's Tourism Strategic Policy Committee received confirmation that work on the facilities will commence in September/October this year, with each building costing €1.2 million.

Councillor Peter Flynn, welcoming the positive updates, said he hopes this will open the door for similar facilities at Old Head and Bertra.
