Senator hosts coffee morning for Mayo's Daisy Lodge

SENATOR Senator Lisa Chambers has hosted a very successful coffee morning at Cuppa Joe's in Castlebar to raise funds for Daisy Lodge, Cong, and Cancer Fund for Children.

The event was attended by Mary McHugh from Cancer Fund for Children, Minister Dara Calleary, former Mayo footballer Andy Moran, and many friends and supporters.

“Cancer Fund for Children provides vital support to children and families affected by cancer and the Daisy Lodge Cong project will only serve to enhance that service and support. I am thrilled by the community's generosity and support for this very worthy cause,” said Senator Chambers.

The event also provided an opportunity to update the community on the progress of the Daisy Lodge Cong project.

“This event was an ideal opportunity to update people on the fact that the tender process for Daisy Lodge Cong is in its final stage, and work is expected to commence on construction by September,” Senator Chambers said. “This development is a significant milestone, and I am grateful to everyone who has supported this initiative.”

Last year, Senator Chambers spearheaded efforts to secure €7.5 million in funding from the Department of Health and The Shared Island Fund, ensuring the project could move forward.

Daisy Lodge Cong, an initiative led by the Cancer Fund for Children, will offer respite breaks and therapeutic support to families grappling with childhood cancer. The lodge will provide families with access to recreational facilities and tailored therapeutic services. With comfortable accommodation and amenities, Daisy Lodge Cong aims to be a sanctuary where families can find solace, support, and respite from the challenges of childhood cancer.

The event highlighted the importance of community involvement and support for local charities.

She noted: “Today’s gathering was not only about raising funds but also about raising awareness. It's inspiring to see so many people come together to make a difference.”
