Funding injection for Mayo community radio stations

Funding of €71,507 through the Coimisiún na Meán's Broadcasting Fund Sound and Vision Scheme will bring vital support to two local broadcasters in Mayo, Minister Alan Dillon has said.

A sum of €35,501 has been awarded to Community Radio Castlebar while €35,608 is allocated to Claremorris Community Radio.

He stated: "This significant funding, comprising €7.9 million allocated to 27 TV and 38 radio projects nationally, along with an additional €706,000 to support community broadcasters in creating socially beneficial programming, is crucial for bolstering our national and local media outputs across the country.

"This substantial investment is a testament to the existing commitment to enhancing the media landscape in Mayo and across Ireland.

"The focus on inclusivity, with special attention to gender equality and the integration of new Irish communities, ensures that our broadcasting content mirrors the diverse perspectives and voices of our population.

“In Mayo, where local media serves as the heartbeat of our community, this funding will empower broadcasters to deliver quality content that resonates with and reflects the unique identity of our residents.

"It will enable our local broadcasters in Mayo to not only continue their excellent work but also to expand their reach and impact, ensuring that every segment of our community is heard."
