New Mayo sports facilities progressing through planning

A NUMBER of major sports facility developments in Mayo are progressing through planning.

In Aughagower, Westport, there are plans to construct a new athletics facility comprising of a six-lane running track, including sprint lanes, a 60m sprint track, and high jump, shot putt and long jump areas.

An application for planning permission for the project has been submitted to Mayo County Council by Aughagower Community Developments CLG.

Meanwhile in Balla, the local GAA club has received the green light from planners for a new pitch, new astro turf training area/pitch, clubhouse extension, spectator stand and new car parking area at Moat, Balla.

Ballinrobe GAA Club has also received approval for its plans to construct a new all weather pitch with ball catch netting, an astro facility, new equipment and machinery store and a gymnasium to the rear of the existing spectator stand.

An extension to the existing dressingrooms will provide a new clubhouse facility that will incorporate two further new dressing rooms, a new referee's room, new male, female and accessible bathroom facilities, new kitchen, a meeting room and a multi function room.
