Transport authority reacts to negativity over Mayo road project

A Mayo TD has queried Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) in relation to the N59 Newport to Derrada Road project following comments made at a meeting of the West Mayo Municipal District that the investment was in doubt.

Deputy Michael Ring said TII remains committed to the completion of the delivery of the N59 between Westport and Mulranny Project.

The next section due to proceed to construction is a 5km section from Newport to Derrada.

Mayo County Council has extended the tender return period to June 27, 2024, to facilitate adequate time for the tenderers to compile their submissions.”

Deputy Ring stated,:“This is a vital piece of road infrastructure. The volume of traffic on this road is very high and therefore this work is very much required.”

“I will continue to follow with both TII and Mayo County Council in relation to this vital piece of infrastructure.

“I had been contacted by local election candidate, Pat Chambers on a number of occasions in relation to this section of road so I am pleased with this update from TII.”
