Boost for popular east Mayo school

INITIAL project approval has been granted under the Additional School Accommodation Scheme for St. Attracta’s NS, Charlestown.

Minister Alan Dillon has received confirmation from the Department of Education that the popular school will receive an additional three mainstream classrooms, three SEN classes, including reconfiguration works to existing classrooms and ancillary accommodation.

Said Minister Dillon: “This is fantastic news for St. Attracta’s National School and their wider community. It will provide much-needed facilities for the current students and students with special educational needs in the area.

“I want to wish principal Brian McDermott, his staff, pupils and board of management the very best with this project in the months ahead.”

Deputy Michael Ring also welcomed the announcement, saying the accommodation approval is 'very significant' and will result in greatly enhanced facilities for the school.

“I am hopeful that these works will be delivered shortly,” he added.
