Mayo county town mourns passing of 'true gentleman' Tom Grier

The death has taken place of Tom Grier, Ballinacorriga, Pontoon Road, Castlebar,

He died peacefully earlier today in the wonderful care of the Mayo Hospice.

News of his passing has evoked a tremendous sense of loss in the community where he was held in such high esteem.

A skilled electrician, he ran a very successful business for many years and was greatly respected for his professionalism.

Many tributes are being paid to him on social media where he has been described as 'a true gentleman and a great neighbour.'

The deceased had a long association with Castlebar Mitchels GAA Club and played with distinction for the club over a long period, winning many medals along the way.

He is deeply regretted by his loving wife Colette, family Michelle, Aisling, Ciara, Tommy and Leighann and their partners Eamon Kennedy, Kenneth McDonnell, Pat Buckley, Marianne Seery and Michael O'Sullivan, grandchildren Saoirse, Sarah, Ailbhe, Patrick, Cian, Isabelle, Tom, Zoe, Jessica and Maia, sisters Gaye Jarvis, Eileen Grier Gavin, Joan Grier Mulvenna, Marian O' Malley and Liz Boyce, brother Willy, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

Tommy was predeceased by his parents Tom and Ellen, and sisters Mary and Patsy.

His remains will be reposing at the Coady Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m., followed by removal to his home.

Removal from his home on Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. to the Church of The Holy Rosary for Requiem Mass at 11:30 a.m.

Interment takes place afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
