Renewed call to trial coffee dock at popular Mayo lake

A MOBILE coffee dock should be trialled at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar over the summer months.

The pilot has been requested by Councillor Ger Deere who said it is being raised by people on the doorsteps while canvassing.

He previously highlighted it two years ago.

Coffee docks are integral in many other areas and a huge amount of people want to see one at the lake, he told a municipal district meeting.

Surely it could be put in place on a trial basis over the summer, he said. He couldn't see why they couldn't overcome by-laws.

Councillor Donna Sheridan supported him, saying it wasn't a big deal.

The need for toilet facilities at the lake was a separate issue flagged by Councillor Blackie Gavin.

Municipal head David Mellett said the casual trading by-laws identified three sites in the town, which did not include Lough Lannagh. There is no provision to allow for pilot areas.

The only avenue would be to provide a licence for a specific event.

“Every day is an event at Lough Lannagh,” noted Councillor Deere.
