Designated swimming area needed at popular Mayo lake

A designated swimming area is needed at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar.

Councillor Ger Deere raised the issue when requesting an update on weed cutting works on the lake.

He has asked for a designated swimming area at the popular lake, marked out with buoys, saying there is demand for it.

Councillor Deere was told steps and rails are being procured at the diving board, with discussions taking place on the areas to be cut and putting in buoys.

On a separate matter at Lough Lannagh, Councillor Deere said a water station is needed at the location. One has been installed at Collector's Lane in the town but people are also crying out for one at the lake, he said.

It would be of great advantage there, he told a municipal meeting.
