Landmark success of Mayo's 'Cataract Bus' campaign with 500 patients treated

Mayo Aontú candidate Paul Lawless has announced the monumental success of his 'Cataract Bus' campaign, a groundbreaking initiative that has drastically reduced hospital waiting lists by providing over 500 patients with expedited surgeries.

Thanks to this campaign, patients have been able to receive life-changing surgeries within weeks, instead of enduring waits of up to three years.

Launched to help cataract patients access prompt treatment in the north of Ireland through the cross-border healthcare initiative, Mr. Lawless's campaign has expanded to include additional treatments.

Patients now benefit from a range of services at Kingsbridge Private Hospital in Belfast and Derry.

In the four and a half years since its inception, Paul Lawless has facilitated not only cataract surgeries but also numerous other critical procedures.

His efforts have enabled patients to bypass long waiting lists in the south for treatments such as hip replacements, carpal tunnel surgery, prostate surgery, various scans, colonoscopy, endoscopy, and more.

He stated: “This is phenomenal news for people on waiting lists in Mayo. I am committed to ensuring no one is left behind, and we’re making that a reality every day.”

For those enduring long waiting lists, He has organised another bus scheduled for mid-June.

He urges anyone in need, or those who know someone in need, to reach out for assistance.

“I am personally committed to guiding you through every step, making all the necessary arrangements for the bus, hospital, and, if required, accommodation,” he assured.
