Mayo GAA legend questions squad depth ahead of Dublin clash

Former Mayo GAA stalwart, Colm Boyle, has raised concerns about the current strength and depth of the Mayo squad following a spate of injuries to starting panel members.

With key players Diarmuid O’Connor and Paddy Durcan sidelined by injuries, David McBrien limping off at half-time, and Fergal Boland receiving a straight red card against Roscommon, manager Kevin McStay faces a significant challenge in preparing his team for the upcoming encounter with Dublin in a fortnight.

The Davitt’s GAA club man expressed his concerns during an interview with Newstalk’s Off the Ball. He stated, “Mayo didn’t put the foot down or get the scores. The most disappointing aspect was that Mayo weren’t able to capitalise on their opportunities.”

Reflecting on Mayo’s recent performance against Roscommon, Boyle noted, “They beat Roscommon a month ago and had to come down and beat them again. McStay will be happy with that, but my one worry for Mayo is that the bench against Roscommon was the weakest I’ve seen in quite a while.”

He added, “As you know, coming up against Dublin with the ammo they have coming off the bench, that would be a real worry going into that game.”

The four-time All-Star winning defender expressed his fears that Mayo might not have the firepower to defeat the reigning All-Ireland Champions Dublin on June 16 in Dr. Hyde Park, Roscommon.
