Claremorris Electoral Area has two new councillors - Alma Gallagher (Fine Gael) and Paul Lawless (Aontú) after counting of votes for the district came to a conclusion shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday.

Sitting councillor Tom Connolly (Fianna Fáil) has lost his seat on the council.

Elected were: Patsy O'Brien, Richard Finn, Damien Ryan, Alma Gallager, Paul Lawless and Michael Burke,

Analysis: Four of the six outgoing councillors - Patsy O'Brien (Ind), Richard Finn (Ind.), Damian Ryan (FF) and Michael Burke (FG) - are in prime position to retain their seats with Aontú Paul Lawless in a strong position to take outgoing Councillor FG Tom Connolly's seat. But it's going to be tight.

New Ballyhaunis Fine Gael contender Alma Gallagher is poised to win the seat vacated by John Cribbin.
