Second recount called for Swinford local election

Returning Officer John Condon has provided an update on the Swinford Local Election results after a lengthy recount.

The recount was triggered by John Sheahan (SF), who was set to miss out on a Mayo County Council seat by just one vote.

The standings before the recount were as follows, with three seats available:

- Adrian Forkan (FF) - 1,668 votes

- John Caulfield (FF) - 1,641 votes

- Neil Cruise (FG) - 1,637 votes

- John Sheahan (SF) - 1,636 votes

Gerry Murray (SF) had already been re-elected prior to the recount.

After reviewing all ballots, John Condon confirmed that the margin between Sheahan and Cruise remained a single vote. Consequently, a second recount has been scheduled to start at 8:45 pm.
