'Change One Thing' - Mayo circular economy event
ONE Westport is hosting a Circular economy event on Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Town Hall Theatre, Westport.
The theme of the event is 'Change One Thing' and the group hopes to encourage everyone, from individuals to business and organisations, to 'change one thing' to accelerate the transition to the circular economy. This event is free and open to all the public.
The showcase event will consist of exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations and a series of talks on all things circular economy. There will be practical workshops on bicycle maintenance and repair, and clothes repair and repurposing.
There will also be a clothes swap. Attendees are asked to bring no more than two items for exchange.
Talks and presentations start at 1 p.m. and finish at 4 p.m. The speaker/panellist lineup is as follows.
1 p.m.: Fin Keegan - Editor.
1.10 p.m.: Dr. Derek McLoughlin - Ecologist/Project Manager at LIFE IP Wild Nature Time.
1.20 p.m.: Dr. Mairead Hurley, Assistant Professor in Science Education, School of Education, Trinity College, Dublin.
1.30 p.m.: Jacinta Barrins - former UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative in Asia and Africa…currently pioneering through behavioural change a programme to reduce the carbon footprint of the over 60s.
1.40 p.m.: Panel: Food (moderator McKinley Neal) with Caithriona McCarthy (Edible Landscape Project CLG), Eoin Heverin (Foodie Save app), Dr. Derek McLoughlin, Jacinta Barrins and Dr. Mairead Hurley.
2.10 p.m.: Carla Rosenkranz - Barter Chain.
2.20 p.m.: Terri Metcalfe - poet.
2.25 p.m.: Kate Carty - writer.
2.30 p.m. Steve O’Reilly - Circular Economy Communications and Policy, Rediscovery Centre, Dublin.
2.40 p.m.: Pooja - PhD scholar, School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, University of Galway.
2.55 p.m.: Dr. Orla Nic Suibhne - county mentor for SEAI Sustainable Energy Community Programme in Mayo and Galway.
3.05 p.m.: Dr. Mark Kelly - Head of ATU Galway-Mayo Centre for Sustainability.
3.15 p.m.: Panel - Energy (moderator Feena Kirkhamm) with Kevin Loftus, Architect, Urbanist and co-founder of ACT, Michael Lennon, Westport Woods Hotel, Richard Mannion, Climate Action Louisburgh, Dr. Orla Nic Suibhne, Dr. Mark Kelly, Dr. Corine Nzeteu, Researcher, School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, University of Galway, and Pooja.
3.45 p.m.: Closing statement.
