Extension of SEAI grant for defective concrete block scheme applicants
MINISTER of State Alan Dillon has announced an extension of supports to the SEAI retrofit scheme rules for homeowners who qualify for the Enhanced Defective Concrete Block (DCB) Scheme.
The SEAI grant supports available to those who are rebuilding their homes as a result of defective blocks will now be increased to a maximum of €37,850. This is an increase from €24,000.
A number of exceptions have been introduced that will apply exclusively to homeowners who are also receiving support under the DCB scheme, he explained.
These will include: Temporary Exception from SEAI Rule for works that are already completed or underway; Temporary exemption from the requirement for a pre-work Building Energy Rating (BER); Exemption from works previously funded rule; They will be exempt from the ‘year of build’ rule and a Competent Building Professional (CBP) appointed to oversee the DCB scheme for the homeowner will also oversee the SEAI works.
Minister Dillon added: “An SEAI project team will be established to engage with each relevant local authority and the Housing Agency to ensure the needs of homeowners are supported. They will assess the frequency of applications, develop a plan of support and will assist homeowners in planning and delivering the home energy upgrades.
“An estimated 6,000 homes are understood to be eligible for the DCB Scheme across a number of counties. Many of these properties are located in rural communities where they will now have access to the upgrade grants which can be carried out by local contractors.”
He continued: “The introduction of the exceptions to SEAI eligibility rules which will apply exclusively to DCB Scheme applicants will mean that as many DCB homes as possible in rural communities can be upgraded to at least a BER of B2 with a heat pump. This will mean that DCB homeowners will have warmer, healthier, more comfortable homes with lower running costs and lower emissions.”
