Mayo national school selected for new physical activity – Dillon

A Mayo primary school has been selected to take part in a new pilot programme focused on physical activity in teaching and learning, says Minister Alan Dillon.

Minister Dillon said he was delighted that Breaffy National School, Ballina have been awarded €8,000 for their project ‘Cycling – a sustainable physical activity for all’.

A total of 24 schools nationwide will receive a grant under the new physical activity pilot programme from the Department of Sport, Physical Education and Gaeltacht to support teachers and school leaders in the integration of physical activity in teaching and learning. The pilot programme will run over the school year 2024/2025.

Minister Dillon said: “I am delighted that Breaffy NS have been successful in their application. The significant number of applications received under the new pilot programmes also demonstrates the interest that schools have when it comes to integrating physical activity into the teaching and learning of a curricular or cross-curricular area. I look forward to seeing the rollout of the project in the North Mayo school.”
