N17 motorist detected by Mayo garda unit driving at 171kph

A YOUNG motorist travelling on the N17 was clocked driving at 171kph by the Mayo Garda Roads Policing Unit.

Details of the detection were reported on the Garda Síochána North Western Region Facebook page this week.

While carrying out a lifesaver speed checkpoint on the N17, a vehicle was detected travelling at 171kph in a 100kph zone.

The driver was on a provisional licence and was unaccompanied by a fully qualified driver.

The vehicle, which was seized, was found have an excessively worn tyre.
