New age friendly parking spaces in Mayo county town

NEW age friendly parking spaces have been installed in Castlebar.

They are located at two areas in the town - Market Square car park and Main Street.

The spaces are subject to the usual parking charges that apply at these locations.

Local Councillor Ger Deere has been a key driver of the initiative to make the town more inclusive.

He said he was 'delighted' to see that a number of age friendly spaces have been put in place at Market Square car park and on Main Street.

Said Councillor Deere: “Over the last number of years I have lobbied to make this happen. These new spaces will add greatly in making Caatlebar an all inclusive town.

“I would hope following representations I have made recently that a number of autism friendly family spaces will also be included around the town.”

Age friendly parking bays are similar to mother and baby car parking spaces in supermarkets and are subject to normal parking fees, he explained.

“Motorists are asked to respect these courtesy spaces and leave them free for older people in the community who need them.”
